About Us
Lorebase began in 2024 as the full-time dedication of just two people, both with backgrounds in arts and engineering. We demanded a space for digital sovereignty that didn't sacrifice collaboration. Our promise is simple: whether you are building alone or together, your knowledge and your worlds belong to you.
Standalone Sovereignty
Lorebase is a complete, standalone desktop application - not a fragile plugin ecosystem. Your world runs on a lightning-fast local engine, while every change is simultaneously mirrored to open formats (Markdown and YAML) on your drive. You get the performance of a native app with the peace of mind of plain text.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Lorebase is free to download and use for individual creators. The core local-first capabilities, writing tools, and map layers will remain free forever. We offer optional commercial licenses and services for power users.
Where is my data stored?
By default, all your wiki entries, maps, and timeline data are saved 100% locally on your device in high-performance SQLite and mirrored to standard Markdown files in your vault. If you choose to enable Loresync for multi-device sync, encrypted changesets synchronize via your assigned sync node.
Does it work offline?
100% offline-first. Lorebase is a standalone desktop application that runs entirely on your local machine, whether you are on an airplane, in a cabin, or off the grid.
How does collaboration work?
Lorebase supports both Local Relay Hosting (peer-to-peer live LAN sessions like hosting a multiplayer game) and Loresync (seamless multi-device offline sync that automatically catches up when online). Check out our Sync vs Relay page for full architectural details.
Services
Collaboration & Sync
Lorebase supports both serverless peer-to-peer Local Relay hosting and seamless multi-device synchronization via Loresync. Choose the workflow that fits your team.
Lorebase Publish
Deploy your local worldbuilding workspace as a public web wiki and interactive atlas in one click. Give readers and players full access while keeping secret notes private.
Direct to Engine
We are actively building a native Unreal Engine plugin. Similar to articy:draft, Lorebase won't just be an external document - it will directly generate strongly-typed gameplay properties, dialogue trees, and narrative logic straight into your game architecture in real-time.
